Anti-Karaoke is the fusion of a rock concert, a karaoke, a circus sideshow, and a big party.

It's an exciting interactive event that offers anyone in the audience a chance to get onstage and sing, dance, or just observe the spectacle.

Anti-Karaoke creator Rachel Arieff acts as the mistress of ceremonies. She also performs various numbers throughout the show -- either as herself, or satirizing celebrities from Britney Spears and Amy Winehouse to Madonna and
Axl Rose.

Rachel also strives
to create an exciting, irreverent yet accepting atmosphere in which audience members feel inspired to get onstage and be the rock stars they know they are!

Anti-Karaoke offers over 500 of your favorite English-language songs to choose from. What makes it even more fun is the variety of the mix: pop, rock, hip hop, heavy metal, country, soul, indie...

All songs sound like the original versions of the songs, minus the voice track. A curious feature of Anti-Karaoke is that the lyrics are read from a music stand, creating more spontaneity and eliminating the need for special DVDs, TV monitors, and related equipment.

“A cathartic evening that turns the tired old concept of traditional karaoke on its head, transforming it into a one-of-a-kind event in which Rachel Arieff acts as mistress of ceremonies and performs a wide array of sketches, alternating with enthusiastic spectators that check their self-consciousness at the door. Everything goes in this show, and the more extreme and outrageous the performances, the better”.
-El Periódico

"'I thought it would be empty, but there are about 200 people here,' says David, a 27-year-old designer. It's his first Monday at the Barcelona Sidecar Club's Anti-Karaoke. 'No, I'm not going to sing,' says Rosa, a 22-year-old student. A half hour and three beers later, she's onstage singing Push It by Salt 'n' Pepa... An American living in Barcelona, Rachel Arieff is now a classic of the local alternative weekend scene. Every Monday at Sidecar, she presents Anti-Karaoke, an underground celebration of the great Japanese invention.” -El País

"Normally Mondays are a drag. The weekend respite ends and, no matter how brief the pause, it's always hard to get back into the swing of the work week.

But what if there were one special event with the capacity to alter this dynamic? Ladies and gentlemen, the remedy is called Anti-Karaoke, a dream come true for the dreary weeknight..."
-La Vanguardia

"Arriving to Madrid is one of the wildest parties that Barcelona has given us this past last year:
Anti-Karaoke."
-Shanguide

"One year, 50 personalities. On Madrid celebrates its anniversary by blowing out the candles with the movers and shakers that have defined the nightlife in this increasingly modern, dynamic and cosmopolitan city..."
-El País ("On Madrid")

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

Though Anti-Karaoke normally lasts three hours, the possible duration of the show is flexible. It can be easily lengthened or reduced to accommodate your event.

At a technical level, the show requires a sound board and PA system, two microphones with stands, a sturdy music stand, and a sound technician.
