If you came to Anti-Karaoke last Monday August 17th, you may agree that the image that best represents that evening is that of the atomic couple G+J, giving it their all onstage.
A friend of mine went so far as to suggest that theirs was the most explosive performance in the history of A.K. And an important detail: it occurred only twenty minutes after the show began. So unfortunately, those in the habit of arriving fashionably late missed something historic.
G+J offered the most fun and lascivious performance that we've yet seen of Danger! High Voltage.
Since we're speaking of punctuality in the show, here's a message for those who complain of not having the opportunity to sing: arrive early, and there will be a 99% chance of reigning onstage.
The doors of the club open at 21.30h., and the show begins at 22.00h., but many people arrive one or two hours after that and later whine because they never have a opportunity to sing. Everyone who was there at 22.00h. last Monday had their chance onstage.
What a great night! Rachel opened fire with nothing other than I Wanna Be Your Dog by The Stooges, and from then on the atmosphere was electric. An hour later, the tickets had sold out, and a euphoria typical of the greatest nights of AK reigned throughout the club.
Pitufi, one of the undisputed stars of the show, who these days lives in Madrid but comes to A.K. Barcelona when she can, delighted us with a gorgeous interpretaiton of Hopelessly Devoted To You from the movie "Grease".
We hadn't seen Ash in the show for at least a year, and his return was explosive.
Great and disturbing was his version of The Beautiful People by Marilyn Manson.
Jan debuted in Anti-Karaoke with one of the best interpretations of Sweet Transvestite that we've seen in the show. Brilliant.
I hope we get to see this man onstage at A.K. in the future.
Rackeloide also debuted this night, and she did with the famous theme song from the movie Flashdance.
A great debut as well.
Rachel contributed the necessary amount of rage to excite the crowd with a truly furious and over-the-top Ace Of Spades.
Mazafaka's performances always guarantee spectacle, as well as a considerable catharsis of adrenaline.
On this occasion, Mazafaka delighted us with a Too Drunk To Fuck by The Dead Kennedys charged with attitude and anger.
Fania from Greece, another star of Anti-Karaoke, interpreted a majestic version of Dream On by Aerosmith.
Speaking of great voices, Rocksales made the whole club dance with Staying Alive, the song that we most associate with this man. Memorable, and it couldn't be any other way.
Blimunda gave it her all with an absolutely smashing Welcome To The Jungle by Guns NRoses.
The classic New York, New York performed by Rachel is the kind of number that always lifts the energy of the crowd, but the truth is that there's no better month than August to enjoy this age-old anthem, while Rachel empties a bottle of Jack Daniels over the front rows.
Uzi Stradlin, who's reappeared in the show after a long period of absence, reigned with In Bloom by Nirvana.
Lady Mouth rendered tribute to the most classic Glenn Danzig with his great song, Mother.
By the way, I recommend that you check out on YouTube the version of this song by Lady Dottie & The Diamonds. It's interesting to listen to such a soulful vocalist sing a metal song like this.
Ennio from Roma, who in very little time has become one of the most beloved performers in the show, delighted us with a Walking On Sunshine that couldn't be more euphoric. Ennio rules!
Blake also stood out this night, with the quintessential Billy Idol hit Rebel Yell.
An what can we say about El Gran Manel? Very fun, his version of Do You Remember RnR Radio? by The Ramones.
This is definitely a man who feels this song.
Around midnight, the terrifying sounds of Carmina Burana reverberated throughout the club, and over the P.A. we heard: Ladies and Gentlemen: born again Christian, Rachel Arieff!!!. Rachel materialized before our eyes covered in blood, a crucifix hanging from her neck and a maniacal smile on her face.
She remarked that just as we're all born into the world covered in blood, so has she been "born" into Christ in the same gory manner. Then she launched into Enter Sandman by Metallica. Enormous.
Dirty Princess sang the hit that made Buckcherry famous, Lit Up.
Fede Sex Navarro reappeared with his now classic version of Roxanne, which in its day inspired a Canadian guy and his young sons to upload a tribute video to YouTube dedicated to him, with his sons singing Roxanne Death Metal-style.
Barbarah presented us with one of her best performances up until this day.
It'll be hard to forget this devastating Smells Like Teen Spirit, which culminated with her crowd surfing above the 500 people packing the club.
Another who was incredible this night was Rocko, with the most wild Black Dog in the history of A.K.
Is it possible to give more in a performance? Nope, definitely not.
Tremendous also was The Show Must Go On by Queen, at the hands of Lord Vader, which ended up being the most epic moment of the evening.
Mr. Sambo said farewell A.K. with the classic Bon Jovi hit, Born To Be My Baby.
It's always great to see Andy onstage at Anti-Karaoke.
On this occasion, he vindicated Marc Bolan and the legendary T. Rex with 20th Century Boy.
Oscar spat all his fury with an especially powerful performance of Chop Suey by System Of A Down .
Also heard this evening: Walk by Pantera (Pirata del Caribe),
"Saturday Night" by The Bay City Rollers (Rachel and Redd Kross Contingent),
Run to the Hills by Iron Maiden (Mr. Eddie Harris),
"Sweet Child O' Mine" by Guns 'N' Roses (Dani Metal),
Buddy Holly by Weezer (El Artista Anteriormente Conocido Como Enrique),
Antisocial by Trust en versión Anthrax (Samurai Xavi),
You Give Love A Bad Name by Bon Jovi (Redd Kross Contingent)
and Are You Gonna Be My Girl by Jet (Kenta).
And in the final stretch, Rachel interpreted Killing In The Name by R.A.T.M., one of those songs that can never be absent from the antikaraokian menu.
It was, literally, one of the most filthy performances ever. Her body covered in blood, confetti, and toilet paper Rachel simply gave it her all.
And no one better than Fabri to follow up such a performance, with a Cowboys From Hell by Pantera as disturbing as one could imagine.
And Kids In America closed another night that couldn't have been more exciting or euphoric.
See you next Monday at A.K.! Remember: if you really want to sing in the show, you'll have more possibility to do so if you get there early.
